Atlassian (Confluence) - Archive or Delete Sites:

About:

This page describes how to archive or delete Sites in Confluence (Atlassian).

How to:

  1. First you need to have an Confluence (Atlassian) account and sign in.

  2. Click the Settings ⚙️ button. Scroll down until you find the button Space Permissions.
Explanation: This section lists all spaces you have admin access to and lets you manage permissions, including regaining admin rights if needed (for example, if the space no longer lists a space admin).

  3. In the left‑hand panel of the space settings window. Click Space settings (this loads the management options for the selected space).

  4. Search for the Site you want to delete or archive. Find Recover Permissions to the right. Click it. There will be a pop-up that ask you to confirm. Click OK.

  5. A new window will pop-up. On the left side, click Space settings.

  6. Under the Manage space section you will see two key actions:

Archive Space:

If you want to Archive your space, click the Archive space button and then Archive space again, and Archive one last time. If you want to restore the space, click Restore space.

  1. Click Archive space.
  2. When a confirmation dialog appears, click Archive space again.
  3. Confirm a final prompt if shown.

After this, the space will be moved to the Archived Spaces list, where it remains accessible for restoration or reference.

How archived spaces behave

Delete Space:

Be Aware!

Deleting a space is permanent and cannot be undone in Confluence Cloud. Best practice is to archive unless you are absolutely sure you no longer need the data.

If you want to Delete your space, click the Delete space button and then Delete space again, and Delete one last time.

  1. Click Delete space.
  2. Confirm by clicking Delete space again when prompted.
  3. Confirm a final deletion in the last prompt.

Explanation: Once deleted, the space and all its content are permanently removed unless you have a backup or export. Deletion does not go to normal trash for easy restoration like single pages do.

And you are done 😄
